Brookwood Cemetery Tour 7th May at 2pm
The guided walk of this historic and extraordinary cemetery (also known as the London Necropolis) will be based in the South Cemetery. It usually lasts 1½ to 2 hours. The tour would be preceded by a short historical chat and prominent memorials will be visited. Visitors must be aware that not all the cemetery can be covered in one visit, and we cannot stress enough that visitors must be capable of walking over uneven ground and for the length of the tour. It is advisable to wear stout shoes.
The cost per head is a donation of £6.00. All tour guides are volunteers, and all walk monies go towards the Society's restoration fund. No dogs are allowed in the cemetery and because parking is limited car sharing is advised.
Parking & Facilities
Brookwood Cemetery is located near Woking, just a 14-minute drive (c.7 miles) from Puttenham.
Parking is at the cemetery office car park in Cemetery Pales. On Cemetery Pales do not take the North/South entrances opposite each other, and from the Pirbright direction it is the first turning on the right. From the A332 it is on the left passed the double entrances. Our tour will commence at the Cemetery Office car park where there are toilet facilities.
Farnborough Wind Tunnels Trip *new date* 27 June
The wind tunnels at Farnborough were instrumental in the development in aviation over the course of the 20th Century. There are two wind tunnels and the tour provides visitors with the opportunity to learn about the varied history, construction, and the critical research work undertaken before, during and after WWII and including the supersonic jet age of aircraft.
Tours are on Thursdays at 10am and 2pm, last about 2 hours and cost £20 per head. Access does require some climbing of stairs to see everything, but I understand that wheelchair users would be able to access most parts of the tunnels.
The tunnels are located in the Farnborough Research Park, about 20mins drive (10 miles) from Puttenham.
